Beginning Bellydance Series
January 10, 17, 24, 31 & February 7, 21, 28!
Wednesdays, 6:30 to 7:30 pm
at Levity Loft in downtown Olympia WA
Week 1&2 - Establish baseline postures and go-to movement vocabulary that helps keep students grounded in a solid foundation and helps them build a repertoire of bellydance moves. We'll also talk about the origins of bellydance.
Week 3&4 - Establish circular movements, level changes and directional changes. We'll place these movement shapes and level changes in different parts of the body and explore how our bodies work up their own divine movement systems! We'll talk about the transition of bellydance from the Awalem and the Gawazee street performers to the stages of Cairo's night scene of the early 20th century.
Week 5&6 - This week, we'll stretch and lift out of our groundedness and add a little acrobatic and balletic influence. This will help us travel and energize our dance. We'll talk about some of the major influencers bringing bellydance into the spotlight of the golden era of Egyptian film, thus creating a golden era of bellydance.
Week 7 - Review and fun!
